Smooth(ie) Operator

Spinach Protein Smoothie- get the recipe

I was uploading pictures from my phone the other day and WHOA.  I mean, I get it.  While most people have pictures of say, cute puppies or gorgeous scenery, I have pictures of food :)  But even so...  I couldn't believe it!

Smoothie-obsessed is not the word.  Or maybe it is.  OK fine.  Hi, my name is Lauren Marie and I love smoothies.  There.  Whew.

I guess it all started about three months ago.  There I was, eating dinner at our dining room table.  Minding my own business.  When all of a sudden, Patrick tells me, "I met this guy on my last business trip who juices vegetables and fruits for every meal.  I think I want to do that."

Whoa, what, wait, wait.  What?

When I regained consciousness, we talked a little more about his motivation for this extreme measure.  And I realized he just wanted to feel like he was getting more nutrients and had more energy, especially in the morning.  And who doesn't?  Once I heard that, I knew just what to do!

I started experimenting with smoothies.  I wanted the smoothie to be full of nutrition and fiber, but I wanted it to taste good without being overly sweet.  And I also wanted it to fill us up without being too heavy.  I was up for the challenge.  And after a few test runs, my Spinach Protein Smoothie was born!

Once Patrick tasted it, he couldn't believe how much nutrient-rich spinach I packed in one smoothie.  And he loved knowing he was getting a good amount of protein to start the day.

So, for the past three months, this smoothie has been our breakfast during the weekdays. It's super easy to make and I find that the cleanup is much easier than if I had cooked a big breakfast!  And when I feel like we need a little variety, I throw in a few easy "add-ins" that I always keep on hand.

I guess I could wrap up this blog post with the cliché phrase, "And that's why compromise is the key to marriage."  But you know what?  I'd like to think this was no compromise.
I'd like to think that I'm just a...

 Smooth (ie) Operator.... :)
