So it's no secret that I love, love, love strawberries. I mean, hello, I don't think it's a coincidence that I was born during strawberry season or that I live 45 minutes away from the place known as "The Winter Strawberry Capital."
I am also a huge fan of eating local strawberries that are grown less than an hour from my house. But I have to say, have you tried the strawberries in the market lately?
Holy Basil! They're so good! I'm a Florida strawberry girl through and through, but let me tell you, those people in California got it going on! I have bought a new pint of strawberries literally every time I have set foot in the grocery store (which is a lot).
I have been using them in our smoothies in the morning and serving them with a dessert platter at parties. And I especially love the fact that I can make my Simple Strawberry Sauce this time of year. It's a fuss-free strawberry dessert that is healthy and tasty. I use the classic strawberry-banana flavor combo and pair it with the sweet zing of orange. I add some mint to add beautiful color and a refreshing taste.
For the weeknights, I just serve the sauce in a bowl. But I dress it up for a weekend dinner with friends. I serve it as a quick and refreshing dessert over a scoop of coconut milk ice cream (it's a little lighter than regular ice cream). It's the perfect sweet treat after a summer barbecue or a day on the beach.
