Cause for Celebration

I'm always up for a celebration. I do not discriminate when it comes to reasons to do so. Sometimes I look for "excuses" to celebrate. My previous "excuses" to celebrate include, but are not limited to:

Country music awards show tonight?
Well of course I'm making beef stew and gluten-free fried okra (perfect for cowboys!).
College football game?
My Too Easy Taco Dip with corn chips and grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto.
Patrick had a bad day at work?
That calls for a big antipasto platter with cheeses, meats, homemade hummus and good wine.
We get to sleep-in on Saturday?
Absolutely, my gluten-free blueberry pancakes with fresh orange juice.

To me, it's the little things in life that matter most. And when little celebrations are always just around the corner, life seems to be more like a party. Don't you think?

Recently it was my husband's birthday that was cause for a big celebration. Our tradition for birthdays is that we treat each other to a great steak dinner. And since we live in the Tampa Bay area, everyone knows the best spot for that is Bern's Steakhouse

Their menu is literally as thick as a book and their steaks melt in your mouth. But what I love the most about Bern's, is that they completely adjust their menu items to accommodate my gluten allergy. Each steak order comes with french onion soup and onion rings, two things that I naturally thought I would have to forgo. Not here! They make them both gluten free!

And to my surprise this time, they had a separate gluten-free dessert list! Their flourless chocolate cake was amazing! I was in gluten-free food heaven! When I got home I was inspired to make my own version of that wonderful dessert. I created a recipe that can be made into a cake or brownies.  I think it turned out to be just as good as what I had at Bern's. But don't take my word for it. Come up with your own "excuse" to have a celebration and try it yourself!
